Information for Students with Disabilities

In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, Lake Forest College recognizes that qualified students who have diagnosed disabilities, including learning disabilities, are entitled to an equal opportunity to benefit from the educational programs of the College and that reasonable accommodations may be necessary to provide that opportunity.

The Learning Support Specialist, a new position at the College, coordinates accommodations for students with disabilities.  To receive reasonable accommodations, students must follow the procedures outlined below.

  • Students must submit documentation from a qualified professional.  The documentation should assess the needs of the student and make recommendations for accommodations.  Deadline is January 1, 2007.  See below for requirements.
  • Before each semester, the student must meet with the Learning Support Specialist to review the accommodations needed by the student.
  • With the written permission of the student (or guardian, if the student is a minor) the Learning Support Specialist will inform the student’s professors, in writing, of the specific classroom accommodations indicated for that student.
  • To protect the student’s privacy, the student (or guardian, if the student is a minor) must give written permission for the professors to be informed.  Professors will not be notified if the student has not signed a consent form, which can be obtained from the Learning Support Specialist.

Documentation should be sent to:
