In 2005, a group of 20 students and staff from Lake Forest College to work with the Baldwin County Habitat for Humanity. The ladies helped install windows and wiring, and put up siding, insulation, dry wall and roofing on the Women Build site. The men worked for the ReStore, building oversized shelves and tables for storage. The group all enjoyed the wonderful southern hospitality and getting the opportunity to help very deserving families.

“Spending Spring Break building a house in Alabama is something I had never thought about doing – but I won't think twice about doing it again.  Lake Forest College definitely offers its student opportunities to expand their horizons – the Habitat for Humanity trip has opened my eyes to the multitude of experiences waiting to be found at Lake Forest College.”

“The trip was a great opportunity to work with a very deserving family.  It was a rewarding experience for everyone.  Vicki and her girls are much closer to moving into their first home.  We were able to give back while having fun, as well as change some negative misperceptions about college students on Spring Break.  We got a taste of Southern hospitality and were able to explore a region of the country new to all of us.”

“Habitat allowed me to help with the roofing.  While putting up the last pieces, Vicki came out and started dancing in the lawn and saying, ‘I have a roof!  I have a roof!’  Witnessing her happiness made the whole trip worthwhile.”
